Course Overview
Excavation and trenching operations present some of the most serious hazards in the construction industry. Cave-ins, falling materials, hazardous atmospheres, underground utilities, and improper access or egress can result in severe injuries or fatalities. Even relatively shallow excavations can become dangerous when proper protective measures are not established.
First Coast Warehouse Safety Training’s Excavation & Trenching Safety course introduces employees and supervisors to the hazards associated with excavation operations and the safety requirements established under OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P.

This course explains how excavation incidents occur, the importance of soil classification and protective systems, and the responsibilities of employers, employees, and competent persons in maintaining safe excavation and trenching operations.
What Students Will Learn
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify common excavation and trenching hazards.
- Recognize the dangers of trench cave-ins and unstable soil conditions.
